Curtis was born in the Philippines in Bolinao Pangasinan. Her father is an Australian Lawyer, James Ernest Curtis Smith. Her father had been engaged to Ojales in 1982. Her younger brother Jasmine has also become an actress. Clare was a sister-in-law on the family of their father. She died at just four months of age in 2007.
